Can you feel it? Can you feel how the Earth rotates beneath your feet? Along with your home, the trees outside your window... Even with the dog raising its leg by the fence... No, you too are spinning with it, unable to stop. For you, the globe rotates, first fast and vividly, then slower and more discernible, showcasing continents and oceans, swaying with the poles and balancing with the equator. And finally, even slower, enough to distinguish bays and peninsulas, islands and lakes, green and yellow land changing to blue shallows, currents to the deep blue depths, until the globe comes to a halt... Then your focused gaze lands on a pale gray section of the globe where there are no city names, river arteries, or any other conventional markings reflecting the Earth's surface. There's absolutely nothing there, just a flat, pale gray color, which has become pale precisely because so much could be painted with it...
